{"id":650,"date":"2015-11-15T04:27:31","date_gmt":"2015-11-15T04:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/?p=650"},"modified":"2015-11-20T04:39:22","modified_gmt":"2015-11-20T04:39:22","slug":"sermon-november-15-2015-baptism-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermon-november-15-2015-baptism-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Sermon &#8211; November 15, 2015:  Baptism, Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-650-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/nov15-15.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/nov15-15.mp3\">http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/nov15-15.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.com\/e\/2FOT\" target=\"_blank\">Download YouVersion sermon notes<\/a><\/h4>\n<div class=\"box item bible\">\n<h4>Baptism, Part 2<\/h4>\n<div class=\"box item notes\">\n<p>Introduction Info<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bapto &#8211; common everyday word meaning to dip.<\/li>\n<li>Baptizo &#8211; religious use meaning to immerse, submerge and emerge and not unique to Judaism.\n<ul>\n<li>Seen as symbolic washing, purification or regenerative act.<\/li>\n<li>Was used as an initiation act or a prepatory act for rituals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"box item notes\">\n<h4>Baptism in Jesus&#8217;s Name<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Same as John\u2019s Baptism?\n<ul>\n<li>Bears a resemblance: Done \u201cfor the forgiveness of sins\u201d \u2013 Acts 2:37-44; Acts 22:11<\/li>\n<li>But, was not the same baptism as John\u2019s \u2013 Acts 18:24-28 &amp; 19:1-7<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Commanded in Matthew 28:19.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus baptizes with the Spirit \u2013 Luke 3:16<\/li>\n<li>Man baptizes in the name of the Trinity\n<ul>\n<li>Water baptism is the first of a two part disciple-making process.<\/li>\n<li>A person cannot be a disciple unless they understand who Jesus is: God in the flesh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"box item notes\">\n<ul>\n<li>Is more than John\u2019s baptism \u2013 Romans 6:1-11, Colossians 2:11-14b &amp; 1 Peter 3:21<\/li>\n<li>God uses the physical act as a means to participate in Jesus\u2019s death, burial and resurrection. \u2013 Romans 6:1-4 &amp; Colossians 2:11-14b<\/li>\n<li>The old self stands at the beginning of baptism and a new self immerges at the end. \u2013 Romans 6:1-11 &amp; Titus 3:4-7<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"box item notes\">\n<ul>\n<li>Isn\u2019t baptism a work?\n<ul>\n<li>Salvation is received through faith. \u2013 John 3:16; Romans 3:28; Ephesians 2:8<\/li>\n<li>Pistis \u2013 faith, belief, conviction + works \u2013 James 2:14-26<\/li>\n<li>Baptism is a faith response (faith + work) \u2013 Acts 2:38 &amp; Acts 22:11<\/li>\n<li>In Acts baptism seems to be an expected part of receiving salvation by faith.<\/li>\n<li>Baptism does nothing by itself if it is not initiated by faith. \u2013 Acts 2:21; Romans 10:13; Peter 3:21<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Can someone be saved without baptism?\n<ul>\n<li>Abraham\u2019s example of justification by faith suggests absolutely! \u2013 Romans 4<\/li>\n<li>However, Abraham proves his faith over and over through works and obedience. \u2013 Genesis 22<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"box item notes\">\n<h4>So What?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>God is ultimately concerned with your heart.<\/li>\n<li>However, a true conviction leads to righteous works and obedience.<\/li>\n<li>If you are capable of baptism you need to submit to the first of the two step process of discipleship.<\/li>\n<li>After baptism you need to submit to the second part: learning and obeying all of Jesus\u2019s commands.<\/li>\n<li>Have you done the first?<\/li>\n<li>Are you doing the second?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Download YouVersion sermon notes Baptism, Part 2 Introduction Info Bapto &#8211; common everyday word meaning to dip.
