{"id":632,"date":"2015-11-10T03:19:56","date_gmt":"2015-11-10T03:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/?p=632"},"modified":"2015-11-10T03:21:21","modified_gmt":"2015-11-10T03:21:21","slug":"sermon-november-8-2015-baptism-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermon-november-8-2015-baptism-part-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Sermon &#8211; November 8, 2015:  Baptism, Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-632-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/nov08-15.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/nov08-15.mp3\">http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/nov08-15.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.com\/e\/2El9\" target=\"_blank\">Download YouVersion sermon notes<\/a><\/h4>\n<div class=\"box item bible\">\n<h4>Baptism, Part 1<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Introduction Info<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bapto &#8211; common everyday word meaning to dip.<\/li>\n<li>Baptizo &#8211; religious use meaning to immerse, submerge and emerge and not unique to Judaism.\n<ul>\n<li>Seen as symbolic washing, purification or regenerative act.<\/li>\n<li>Was used as an initiation act or a preparatory act for rituals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>John the Baptist&#8217;s baptism<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Purpose &#8211; repentance and forgiveness of sins in preparation for &#8220;the kingdom of heaven&#8230;at hand&#8221; (Matthew 3:1-11).<\/li>\n<li>It also served to reveal Jesus as the Messiah (John 1:31).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Why was Jesus baptized?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Revealed Jesus as the Messiah (John 1:31).<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8230;to fulfill all righteousness&#8221; (Matthew 3:15).<\/li>\n<li>To be identified with sinners (Isaiah 53:12)<\/li>\n<li>Jesus set the example as he would command submission to baptism (Matthew 28:19; John 14:12; Ephesians 5:1-2; 1 Peter 2:20-22; 1 John 2:6)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Baptism with the Holy Spirit<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>John foretells this is one of the baptisms of Jesus (Luke 3:16).<\/li>\n<li>Happens to the disciples on Pentecost accompanied by signs (Acts 2:1-4).<\/li>\n<li>Happens on two other occasions with the sign of tongues (Acts 10 and 19:1-7).<\/li>\n<li>What is suggested in Acts is confirmed by Paul is that this baptism unites believers (1 Corinthians 12:13).<\/li>\n<li>Baptism seems to precipitate filling as promised by Jesus (John 14:15-17).<\/li>\n<li>Signs seem to be no longer needed to accompany baptism\/filling with the Holy Spirit.<\/li>\n<li>In majority of cases it seems baptism with the Holy Spirit followed water baptism (Acts 8:14-17; 19:1-7).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Baptism with fire<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>John revealed that Jesus would baptize with (Matthew 3:11 and Luke 3:16)<\/li>\n<li>Three interpretations:\n<ul>\n<li>John refers to Pentecost.<\/li>\n<li>John refers to the purifying work of the Holy Spirit.<\/li>\n<li>John is referring to judgment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So What?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All who recognize Jesus as Lord have the Holy Spirit inside of them (John 14:15-17).<\/li>\n<li>Jesus said the Holy Spirit will (John 14:26, 15:26, 16:7-15) \u2026<\/li>\n<li>Be a Helper and Comforter<\/li>\n<li>Teach \u201call things\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Remind of Jesus\u2019 teachings<\/li>\n<li>Bear witness about Jesus<\/li>\n<li>Convict the world of sin and righteousness and judgment<\/li>\n<li>Guide in truth<\/li>\n<li>Glorify Jesus<\/li>\n<li>The Holy Spirit is a promise we can be sure of.<\/li>\n<li>It is by the Holy Spirit that we are transformed into the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:1-30; Romans 12:2; Galatians 5:16-26).<\/li>\n<li>Are you taking advantage of the Spirit who lives inside of you or do you offend the Spirit with your lifestyle?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Download YouVersion sermon notes Baptism, Part 1 &nbsp; Introduction Info Bapto &#8211; common everyday word meaning to dip.
