{"id":564,"date":"2015-10-01T23:35:32","date_gmt":"2015-10-01T23:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/?p=564"},"modified":"2015-10-01T23:36:28","modified_gmt":"2015-10-01T23:36:28","slug":"sermon-september-27-2015-a-study-on-the-church-and-our-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermon-september-27-2015-a-study-on-the-church-and-our-response\/","title":{"rendered":"Sermon \u2013 September 27, 2015: \u201cA Study on the Church and Our Response\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-564-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/sep27-15.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/sep27-15.mp3\">http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/sep27-15.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p><strong>Ekklesia<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ekklesia literally means assembly.<\/li>\n<li>Church is derived from words meaning \u201chouse of the Lord\u201d and\/or \u201cof the Lord\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Two times Jesus uses the word\n<ul>\n<li>Matthew 16:18 \u2013 Significance: Jesus recognizes a group of people who have the commonality of submission to Jesus as Lord.<\/li>\n<li>Matthew 18:15ff \u2013 Significance: Jesus\u2019 group of people are to be unified in holy living.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Overall purpose of the church<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The assembly exists to encourage one another to live holy lives in accordance with the example Jesus set and to obey everything he has commanded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The devoted activity of the early church \u2013 Acts 2:42ff<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Apostle\u2019s teaching<\/li>\n<li>The fellowship<\/li>\n<li>The breaking of bread<\/li>\n<li>The prayers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These activities are the way the church worked out their purpose.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other activities found in the epistles<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pastors are called to lead through example.<\/li>\n<li>Provide correct teaching<\/li>\n<li>Protect the truth<\/li>\n<li>Encourage holy living (love and service)<\/li>\n<li>Provides accountability and discipline<\/li>\n<li>Provides a place for corporate worship and unified prayer<\/li>\n<li>Training for evangelism<\/li>\n<li>Meets the needs of the lost world looking for opportunities to share God\u2019s good news<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In essence, the church encourages continual discipleship and provides strength and support in the loving environment of family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What we have done so far.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Devote<\/li>\n<li>Develop<\/li>\n<li>Do<\/li>\n<li>Disciples<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Where we are going.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Better Sunday worship attendance.<\/li>\n<li>More small group Bible study opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>Better ministry involvement.<\/li>\n<li>Church-wide service\/evangelism events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>So What?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be consistent in your commitment to worship in a corporate setting.<\/li>\n<li>Get involved in growth activities with brothers and sisters, and even consider hosting a small group in your home.<\/li>\n<li>Meet needs in the church.<\/li>\n<li>Take part in church-wide events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ekklesia Ekklesia literally means assembly.
