(Gen 15:13-16 &amp; Lev 18:24-30)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Overview of Chapter 10<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Table of nations with their origins.<\/li>\n<li>Two names stand out: Nimrod and Peleg.<\/li>\n<li>Names serve to connect events.\n<ul>\n<li>Nimrod, a descendant of Ham, is most likely connected with the Tower of Babel event.<\/li>\n<li>Peleg serves as a point of reference to when the Tower of Babel event took place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tower of Babel<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The story has some difficulties.<\/li>\n<li>God is portrayed lesser than what he truly is:\n<ul>\n<li>He seems finite.<\/li>\n<li>He seems fearful.<\/li>\n<li>He seems petty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Could be a literary technique to reflect the attitude of these people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Lesson<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Man constantly struggles with wanting to be godlike.\n<ul>\n<li>God is omniscient, and man wants to be completely secure.<\/li>\n<li>God is omnipotent, and man wants to be all powerful.<\/li>\n<li>God is sovereign, an d man wants to be in control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>When we attempt to attain such things we do so with no regard for others.<\/li>\n<li>What truly makes God is the fact that he is love.<\/li>\n<li>There is a difference between being godlike and godly.\n<ul>\n<li>To try to be godlike is selfish.<\/li>\n<li>To try to be godly is loving.<\/li>\n<li>To be godlike is unattainable.<\/li>\n<li>To be godly is completely attainable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>God did not create us to be god for there is only one God.<\/li>\n<li>God created us to be like him in showing perfect love.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Towers lead to confusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We can never obtain power, security or control by our own means.<\/li>\n<li>These things come through a relationship with Jesus Christ.<\/li>\n<li>Power, security and control are his in which he allows us to partake.<\/li>\n<li>The longer we try to obtain such things the more confused we will be.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>So What?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are you trying to build a tower? Are you attempting to gain power, security, and\/or control by your own means?<\/li>\n<li>Understand you will never attain such except if you submit to Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>Allow Jesus to turn the desire to be godlike to a desire to be godly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Genesis 9:20-11:9 The Curse of Canaan (9:20-28) Sets up God\u2019s command to clean the land.
