{"id":313,"date":"2015-04-19T03:03:34","date_gmt":"2015-04-19T03:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/?p=313"},"modified":"2015-04-26T21:00:50","modified_gmt":"2015-04-26T21:00:50","slug":"genesis-order-of-society-gender-roles-part-2%e2%80%b3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/genesis-order-of-society-gender-roles-part-2%e2%80%b3\/","title":{"rendered":"Genesis \u2013 \u201cOrder of Society: Gender Roles part 2\u2033"},"content":{"rendered":"<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-313-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/apr19-15.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/apr19-15.mp3\">http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/apr19-15.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Order of Society: Gender Roles part 2<br \/>\nGenesis 2:4-24<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Head coverings? \u2013 <em>1 Corinthians 11:2-16<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cultural identification of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>married<\/strong><\/span> women.<\/li>\n<li>Church tradition: symbolizes husband\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>headship<\/strong><\/span> of his wife.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why does it matter? \u2013 <em>vv. 2-3<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>God is a god of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>order<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Headship<\/strong><\/span> is part of God\u2019s creative order.<\/li>\n<li>However, each relationship is different and should not be treated exactly the same.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Was something going on? \u2013 <em>vv. 4-5a<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Married women participating in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>worship<\/strong><\/span> with heads uncovered<\/li>\n<li>Two-fold distraction\n<ul>\n<li>Visually <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>stimulating<\/strong><\/span> to men.<\/li>\n<li>A statement of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>rejection<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Is it that extreme? \u2013 <em>vv. 5b-6<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A woman with shaved head indicated <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>adultery<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Adultery: Giving <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>authority<\/strong> <\/span>to another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is the outcome? \u2013 <em>vv. 7-10<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Man, in the image of God, shares <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>authority<\/strong> <\/span>over woman.<\/li>\n<li>When exercising authority as God does, i.e. unconditional sacrificial love, he makes God look <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>good<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>She glorifies man when she <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>helps<\/strong> <\/span>him to glorify God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What do angels have to do with it? \u2013 <em>v. 10<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two interpretations<\/li>\n<li>Paul reminds the church that it was the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>beauty<\/strong> <\/span>of women that caused some angels to fall.<\/li>\n<li>Angels who worship eternally in the presence of God cover <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>head<\/strong> <\/span>and feet \u2013 symbol of submission?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Just how far should we take it? \u2013 <em>vv. 11-12<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There exists an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">interdependent<\/span> relationship between men and women.<\/li>\n<li>Men and women are equal in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>essence<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><em>Women should not be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>objects<\/strong> <\/span>of men but the object of a man\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>love<\/strong><\/span>.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What does nature say? \u2013 <em>vv. 13-15<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>God has created male and female to be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>different<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>It goes against God\u2019s created <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>order<\/strong> <\/span>when one tries to be like the other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>That\u2019s it!? \u2013 <em>v. 16<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>That\u2019s it! There is not room in the church for the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>exchanging<\/strong> <\/span>of gender roles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Head coverings today?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The tradition is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>symbolic<\/strong> <\/span>of God\u2019s created order.<\/li>\n<li>It would be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>permissible<\/strong> <\/span>for a wife to resume the tradition.<\/li>\n<li>A similar and more \u201cmodern\u201d tradition would be to choose to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>dress modestly<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Does this apply to unmarried women?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Absolutely! Unmarried women should want to attract the right kind of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>husband<\/strong><\/span>. (1 Peter 3:3-5; 1 Timothy 2:9-10)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Are there other symbols? \u2013 <em>1 Timothy 2:11-15<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The exclusive <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>male<\/strong> <\/span>leadership of the church.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>God has created clearly <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>defined<\/strong> <\/span>gender roles.<\/li>\n<li>Men <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>lead<\/strong> <\/span>and women <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>help<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Wives should have some <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>symbol<\/strong> <\/span>of their husband\u2019s headship.<\/li>\n<li>Unmarried women should do the same if they desire a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>good<\/strong> <\/span>husband.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Note: Sermon recording may cutoff a couple minutes early)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Order of Society: Gender Roles part 2 Genesis 2:4-24 Head coverings? \u2013 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 Cultural identification of married women.
