{"id":1593,"date":"2018-05-20T14:03:12","date_gmt":"2018-05-20T14:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/?p=1593"},"modified":"2018-05-28T01:24:36","modified_gmt":"2018-05-28T01:24:36","slug":"sermon-may-20-2018-thekingdomofgod","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermon-may-20-2018-thekingdomofgod\/","title":{"rendered":"Sermon &#8211; May 20, 2018: &#8220;The Kingdom of God&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-1593-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/may20-18.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/may20-18.mp3\">http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/may20-18.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<h3>Luke 17:20-37<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Parallel Accounts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No parallel accounts.<\/p>\n<p>However, there are similarities found in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21.<\/p>\n<p>Luke 17 most likely takes place at an earlier date.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke\u2019s reason for recording<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reveals the Pharisees\u2019 attitude toward Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>Encounters like these will help justify Jesus\u2019 death.<\/li>\n<li>May be a primer for chapter 21.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is the kingdom of God?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In a general sense \u2013 God\u2019s rule over all creation.<\/li>\n<li>In a particular sense \u2013 An actual future kingdom established on earth.<\/li>\n<li>The Jew\u2019s concept \u2013 A kingdom established by the Messiah which involves Israel ruling with him.<\/li>\n<li>In actuality &#8211; God\u2019s eschatological kingdom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Jesus makes it clear<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cthe kingdom of heaven is at hand.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cat hand\u201d is <em>engizo <\/em>which is a reference to space and not time.<\/li>\n<li>The kingdom of heaven is found where Jesus is.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Exegesis of the passage<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Verse 20 \u2013 Pharisees demand an answer from Jesus that lines up with their own thinking.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus responds: They can\u2019t observe the kingdom because of the way they think about it.<\/li>\n<li>Verse 21 \u2013 They will never see it come in the future because it already has come.<\/li>\n<li>Verse 22 \u2013 Jesus alludes to his ascension and presence in heaven.<\/li>\n<li>Verse 23 \u2013 Jews will continue to look for the Messiah but will not find him.<\/li>\n<li>Verse 24 \u2013 Jesus alludes to his second coming and no mistaking about it.<\/li>\n<li>Verse 25 \u2013 Jesus alludes to his crucifixion.<\/li>\n<li>Verses 26-30 \u2013 Much of the world will live unaware of prophecy unfolding before them.<\/li>\n<li>Verses 31-35 \u2013 Jesus refers to final events and \u201cthe rapture.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Final Events leading to the fulfilled Kingdom of Heaven<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The day of verse 24 is found in Revelation 14:14-20 the day the earth is \u201charvested.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Paul speaks of this day in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18.<\/li>\n<li>After the harvest of righteous the wrath of God is poured out on the earth (Revelation 16).<\/li>\n<li>This aligns with the second part of the harvest found in Revelation 14.<\/li>\n<li>This explains what Jesus alluded to in Luke 17:34-35.<\/li>\n<li>The millennial reign is established in Revelation 20:1-6.<\/li>\n<li>After the millennial reign Satan is released, and he gathers the armies of the world against God\u2019s chosen, but God defeats them (Revelation 20:7-10).<\/li>\n<li>The second resurrection (Revelation 20:5) and God\u2019s judgment (Revelation 20:11-15).<\/li>\n<li>Paul describes second resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15:51-53.<\/li>\n<li>God\u2019s eternal kingdom is then established on a new earth (Revelation 21:1-4 &amp; 21:9ff)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cWhere, Lord?\u201d \u2013 verse 37<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Verse 37 \u2013 Disciples are seeking to be assured they recognize Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus\u2019 response reinforces the idea that there will be no mistake.<\/li>\n<li>He will be the only one who is able to strike the wicked.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Transformation Expectation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>God provides information about the end to give us hope.<\/li>\n<li>God withholds the specifics because we don\u2019t need them.<\/li>\n<li>God has given you everything you need to live fully for him.<\/li>\n<li>Live like today is the last.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Luke 17:20-37 Parallel Accounts No parallel accounts.
