{"id":1483,"date":"2018-02-18T23:52:25","date_gmt":"2018-02-18T23:52:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/?p=1483"},"modified":"2018-03-05T02:12:23","modified_gmt":"2018-03-05T02:12:23","slug":"sermon-february-18-2018-he-came-to-find-the-lost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermon-february-18-2018-he-came-to-find-the-lost\/","title":{"rendered":"Sermon &#8211; February 18, 2018: &#8220;He Came to Find the Lost&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-1483-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/jan18-18.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/jan18-18.mp3\">http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/jan18-18.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<h2>Luke 15<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Parallel Accounts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Matthew 18:10-14 is parallel to 15:1-7<\/p>\n<p>The rest of chapter 15 is unique material to Luke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Context<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Luke is presenting this material in the context of Jesus traveling to Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is criticized for eating with \u201ctax collectors and sinners\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Luke\u2019s reason for recording<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jesus responds to his critics and reveals (again) the reason he came and was ministering to such people.<\/li>\n<li>Luke shows a stark contrast between the Pharisees and Jesus in attitude toward \u201csinners.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Luke again stresses the universal nature of Jesus\u2019 mission and God\u2019s love for mankind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tax collectors and sinners<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Telones<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Bought from Rome the right to collect taxes, customs and\/or tolls.<\/li>\n<li>Seen as Roman collaborators.<\/li>\n<li>Many exacted more than Rome demanded making themselves rich at the expense of fellow Jews.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>Hamartolos<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>From Greek <em>hamartano <\/em>which means to \u201cmiss the mark.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>People who clearly lived lives in violation of the law.<\/li>\n<li>People who had incurable diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Pharisees saw both groups as being abandoned by God and beyond redemption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Parables of the Lost Sheep and Coin<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The main point of these two parables is to show that no one is beyond redemption.<\/li>\n<li>They both paint a picture of a loving God who actively seeks the lost (sinners).<\/li>\n<li>Both express the joy of God and heaven at the redemption of sinners and stress the importance of Jesus\u2019s mission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Parable of the Prodigal Son<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This parable stresses the fact that God does not force the lost to accept salvation.<\/li>\n<li>Those who are lost view the world as theirs to do with what they want to gain for themselves.<\/li>\n<li>They \u201csquander\u201d what they have been given on living that produces nothing of any substantial importance.<\/li>\n<li>Through various circumstances God enables the sinner to choose to humble themselves and submit to him.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Big Picture<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This parable reveals that God does most of the work when it comes to salvation.<\/li>\n<li>Our job is to either accept or reject.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Transformation Expectation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Christians should never discount anyone from being able to submit to God and receive salvation.<\/li>\n<li>Christians should dedicate themselves to the work of Jesus in searching for the lost and providing opportunity for salvation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Luke 15 Parallel Accounts Matthew 18:10-14 is parallel to 15:1-7 The rest of chapter 15 is unique material to Luke.
