This once again affirms that Jesus used the same or similar parables multiple times to illustrate different principles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Context<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Luke is presenting this material in the context of Jesus traveling to Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is invited to a leading Pharisee\u2019s home for a meal on the Sabbath.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The hard life of a disciple<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Seek to provide the \u201crest\u201d of others. \u2013 <em>vv 1-6<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Consider others more important. \u2013 <em> 7-11<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Do for others without expecting repayment. \u2013 <em> 12-14<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Notice the commonality? \u201cOTHERS\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s hard to be a disciple when\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You put yourself above the needs of others.<\/li>\n<li>You seek the honor of man.<\/li>\n<li>You expect to be repaid for what you have done.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Notice the commonality? \u201cYOU\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t allow YOU to become the reason for missing out on the blessings of God\u2019s kingdom. \u2013 <\/strong><em>vv. 15-24<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The blessings of God\u2019s kingdom<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You will have rest.<\/li>\n<li>You will be honored.<\/li>\n<li>You will be rewarded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The cost of discipleship \u2013 <\/strong><em>vv. 25-33<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carefully contemplate the cost before making the decision to follow.<\/li>\n<li>The cost is giving up what WE think is important.<\/li>\n<li>The person who is not willing to allow God to transform them cannot be a true follower of Jesus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t put off making the decision because eventually the decision will be made for you. <\/strong><em>\u2013 vv. 34-35<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Transformation Expectation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put other\u2019s needs before your wants and desires.<\/li>\n<li>Consider others greater than yourself.<\/li>\n<li>Do without expecting repayment.<\/li>\n<li>Let nothing stand in your way of following Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>Make the most of every growth opportunity: don\u2019t be non-committal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Luke 14 Luke\u2019s reason for recording Luke shows Jesus continuing to expose and deal with Pharisaical hypocrisy.
