There is only one way to heaven and in order to get there a person must humble themselves and repent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Parallel Accounts<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Matthew 7:13-14 and 7:21-23<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Though there are similarities there are many differences.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"228\">Luke:<\/p>\n<p>Context: Answering a question<\/td>\n<td width=\"228\">Matthew<\/p>\n<p>Context: Sermon on the Mount<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"228\">Wide Door: <em>thyra<\/em><\/td>\n<td width=\"228\">Wide Gate: <em>pyle<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"228\">No path mentioned<\/td>\n<td width=\"228\">Wide path mentioned<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"228\">Encourages to \u201cstrive\u201d to enter<\/td>\n<td width=\"228\">Warns the path is hard<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"228\">Many will seek to enter, but won\u2019t<\/td>\n<td width=\"228\">Few will find the gate and path<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"228\">Parable about a master<\/td>\n<td width=\"228\">Identifies himself as the Lord<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"228\">Those who can\u2019t enter will claim familiarity with Jesus<\/td>\n<td width=\"228\">Those who can\u2019t enter will claim they have done miracles in his name<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"228\">Jesus will claim he does know where they come from<\/td>\n<td width=\"228\">Jesus will claim he does not know them<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"228\">Jesus seems to be focused on Israelites<\/td>\n<td width=\"228\">Jesus\u2019 general teaching<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Again, similar words spoken in different contexts which reveal that Jesus may have used this analogy more than once.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jesus reveals himself to be the narrow entrance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>John 14:6 \u201cI am the way, the truth and the life\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The \u201cwide\u201d way and entrance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The entrance is to destruction (i.e. hell)<\/li>\n<li>The way leading to it is easy\n<ul>\n<li>Religion = a false sense of control<\/li>\n<li>Philosophy = a false sense of security<\/li>\n<li>Within Christianity\n<ul>\n<li>Legalism\/liberalism<\/li>\n<li>False theology<\/li>\n<li>False philosophy<\/li>\n<li>Ultimately it comes down to the heart<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Is salvation faith and works or faith alone?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is not true that a person can earn their way to heaven. Ephesians 2:8-9<\/li>\n<li>It is true that one must struggle to change their belief.<\/li>\n<li>Repent means to change one\u2019s belief and then do things differently based on the new belief.<\/li>\n<li>We are expected to do things differently once our belief has been changed. Ephesians 2:10<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><strong>I don\u2019t know where you come from\/who you are<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Familiarity with Jesus does not get one into heaven.<\/li>\n<li>Mere belief doesn\u2019t get you into heaven.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What gets you into heaven?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Faith (belief and trust) combined with repentance (changing one\u2019s mind and therefore actions)<\/li>\n<li>The evidence of faith and repentance is transformation (thinking and doing things differently) Romans 12:1-2 &amp; James 2:14-26<\/li>\n<li>Those who truly believe will not be \u201cworkers of evil\u201d (injustice or unrighteousness) or \u201clawlessness\u201d (violation of God\u2019s law) implies faith and repentance evidenced by works.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Transformation Expectation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cChristians\u201d are to be people who believe Jesus is Savior and Lord and act accordingly.<\/li>\n<li>True Christians are constantly in a state of transformation.<\/li>\n<li>Continue to change in thinking and action.<\/li>\n<li>What is the next step for you?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Luke 13:22-30 Luke\u2019s reason for recording What Jesus says here is a warning against trying to hold on to false beliefs and ideas.
