{"id":1445,"date":"2017-12-31T15:14:37","date_gmt":"2017-12-31T15:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/?p=1445"},"modified":"2018-01-24T01:20:09","modified_gmt":"2018-01-24T01:20:09","slug":"sermon-december-31-2017-dont-get-distracted-pt-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermon-december-31-2017-dont-get-distracted-pt-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Sermon &#8211; December 31, 2017: &#8220;Don&#8217;t Get Distracted, pt. 2&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-1445-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/dec31-17.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/dec31-17.mp3\">http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/dec31-17.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<div>\n<p>Luke 12:35-53<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parallel Accounts<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Luke 12:35-40 \u2013 Mark 13:32-37<\/li>\n<li>Luke 12:41-48 \u2013 Matthew 24:45-51<\/li>\n<li>Luke 12:49-53 \u2013 Matthew 10:34-36<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jesus\u2019 teaching here is was most likely something he taught often as it is contained in the record of the other Gospel writers but in different contexts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke\u2019s reason for recording<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This passage must be taken in context with the previous passage.<\/li>\n<li>Luke\u2019s shows Jesus exhorting his disciples to make kingdom work the priority over worldly accumulation of wealth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The context<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jesus\u2019 main message \u2013 the kingdom of God is at hand.<\/li>\n<li>Jews correlated this with the coming of the Messiah.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus\u2019 second coming would usher in the final installation of God\u2019s kingdom and be a time of judgment.<\/li>\n<li>Again, Jesus is exhorting his followers to make the most of his absence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Beware of three destructive attitudes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWho cares; I\u2019m going to get as much stuff as I can while I\u2019m here.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHe\u2019s coming back soon why should I do anything?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIt\u2019s taking him so long it probably won\u2019t happen in my lifetime.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u201cStay dressed\u2026keep the lamps burning\u201d <\/strong><em>vv 35-36<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is a warning to not get lazy but to keep on working while Jesus is away.<\/li>\n<li>We need to be prepared for the final establishment of God\u2019s kingdom.<\/li>\n<li>We need to try our hardest to help provide citizens for the kingdom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cBlessed are those servants\u201d <\/strong><em>vv 37-38<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jesus hints that his coming may not be when expected.<\/li>\n<li>It doesn\u2019t matter when it is; we need to expect that it WILL happen.<\/li>\n<li>When Jesus returns there will be rest from the work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Parable of the burglar <\/strong><em>vv 39-40<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The parable is a contrast; those who accumulate wealth are worried about it being taken, however, we want Jesus to take what we have when he comes back.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cLord\u2026this parable for us?
