{"id":1264,"date":"2017-06-11T11:30:25","date_gmt":"2017-06-11T11:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/?p=1264"},"modified":"2017-06-21T19:32:26","modified_gmt":"2017-06-21T19:32:26","slug":"sermon-june-11-2017-be-great-by-loving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermon-june-11-2017-be-great-by-loving\/","title":{"rendered":"Sermon &#8211; June 11, 2017: &#8220;Be Great by Loving&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-1264-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/jun11-17.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/jun11-17.mp3\">http:\/\/kcc.life\/life\/sermons\/jun11-17.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<h4><strong>The Commands of Jesus<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><em>\u201cLet the greatest\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLove one another\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Luke22:24-27 and John 13:34 (15:12)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Greatness<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jesus spoke about greatness on several occasions.\n<ul>\n<li>Mark 9:33-35 (Luke 9:46-48)<\/li>\n<li>Matthew 18:1-4<\/li>\n<li>Matthew 20:20-28<\/li>\n<li>Matthew 23:1-11<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u201cBenefactors\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Benefactors see themselves benefiting society through their power and authority.<\/li>\n<li>However, Jesus does not want his followers thinking this way; perhaps because these people think to highly of themselves.<\/li>\n<li>He reveals that God measures greatness differently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u201cGreatest\u2026become as the youngest\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The elder brother brought to mind a \u201cgreat\u201d position that is not earned.<\/li>\n<li>However, according to God, greatness is not an inherited position.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus reveals greatness is earned through attitude.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cLeader\u2026as one who serves\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leaders are considered great, by the world, because they tell others what to do.<\/li>\n<li>However, Jesus reveals that leaders are in their position not to tell but to serve.<\/li>\n<li>Leaders encourage people to do by setting an example to follow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Who is the greater?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>By posing such a question Jesus reveals that the \u201cgreat\u201d would not be great without the ones who serve.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus uses himself as an example of how the truly great are those who serve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cLove one another as I have loved\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Often described as the firstborn, denoting an authoritative position, Jesus chooses to not exercise such authority independently. \u2013 Phil 2:5-8<\/li>\n<li>He submitted to the will of the Father, and out of love, served man by taking the punishment of sin upon himself.<\/li>\n<li>Greatness, according to God, depends on this type of sacrificial love.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The reason for the body of Christ<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Perhaps it is with this understanding that Paul penned 1 Corinthians 12 (22-26).<\/li>\n<li>Paul claims this is so \u201cthat there may be no division in the body, but the members may have the same care for one another.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Transformation Expectation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>God wants us to quit considering each other great by the standards of the world.<\/li>\n<li>God wants us to consider each other great according to the way we love one another.<\/li>\n<li>Be great by loving as Jesus loves, and honor those who love the way he loves by considering them great.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Commands of Jesus \u201cLet the greatest\u2026\u201d \u201cLove one another\u2026\u201d Luke22:24-27 and John 13:34 (15:12) Greatness Jesus spoke about greatness on several occasions.
