The Commands of Jesus
Confront Sin
Matthew 18:15-20
It’s all about the love
- Jesus expects us to love one another as he has loved us. (John 13:34)
- Jesus expects us to give and do what is best and right for each other.
- Truly loving one another means that we do not let each other’s sin go unchecked.
Love through confronting sin
- Our first priority is making every effort to not live in sin ourselves.
- We all need help though, and one way we can help one another is by obeying the command to confront each other’s sin when it is perceived.
- We always need to approach confrontation with the first priority being the discovery of why sin is taking place.
- With such knowledge, we need to act accordingly: either teach, correct or rebuke.
- The goal of such confrontation is repentance and continued involvement in the family of God.
- Those who have undergone church discipline cannot be accepted or expected to act as a member of God’s family.
- The goal for those who have undergone church discipline is to see them submit to the lordship of Jesus.
Transformation Expectation
- Jesus expects us to love fully and completely even when we perceive such giving as a conflict of interest to our own wants and desires.
- Jesus expects us to love especially when it is tough to do so.
