Things to notice
• Jacob recounts the promise of God spoken to him at Luz. – vv. 3-4
• Jacob made Manasseh and Ephraim full members of the family with all the benefits. – vv. 5-6
• Jacob may be doing this because he believes Rachel would have given him more children had she survived. –vv. 13-21
Our adoption
• Our place in God’s family is the result of promises spoken long ago. – Genesis 22:18; Ephesians 1:3-6
• Our place in God’s family is made possible through Jesus. – Hebrews 2:11-18; Galatians 4:1-7
• Our status in God’s family is as full fledged members; fellow heirs with Jesus. – Romans 8:12-17
• Are Christians Ephraim and Jews Manasseh? – Heed the warning – Romans 11:11-24
What does it mean?
• We can be sure of our salvation.
• We must behave has children of God for that is what we are.
• If you are considering earthly adoption it must be done for the full benefit of the child and not yourself.
