Sermon – October 23, 2016: “Rightly Viewing Discipline”

Rightly Viewing Discipline
Luke 1:57-66; Rev 3:14-22; Hebrews 12:1-11

The reason for this narrative
• Narrative adds validity to the story for many were talking about the unusual circumstances surrounding the birth of John.
• All eyes would be on the prophet who was sent to prepare the way for the Messiah.

Discipline
• God will discipline when we do things we know better not to do.
• God disciplines us to bring about a change in our thinking and an earnestness in our action. – Revelation 3:19
• God uses consequences of sin as discipline. – Hebrews 12:3
• God disciplines so that we may share in his holiness. – Hebrews 12:5-6
• Discipline yields peace within that comes from right living. – Hebrews 12:11

Your response…
• Identify one sin and turn it over to Jesus.
• Enlist the help of others by going to them and confessing your sin.
• Set up a system of accountability.
• Earnestly pray for one another.
• Repeat
